West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced the release of the second installment of ₹60,000 under the Banglar Bari scheme for 12 lakh beneficiaries. The payment is being credited to their bank accounts as part of the state government's ongoing housing project aimed at providing homes to economically weaker sections. The announcement was made at a service delivery event held at Videocon Ground near Siliguri, where Mamata Banerjee also handed over cheques to select beneficiaries for house construction.
The Chief Minister stated that the central government has not released funds for this scheme over the past three years, leading the state government to undertake the housing construction independently. She confirmed that the remaining 16 lakh beneficiaries would receive the first installment of the housing amount by December, and the second installment is scheduled for payment in May next year. Mamata Banerjee added, "If anyone is still left out, we will also build houses for them."
This payment follows the initial installment of ₹60,000 distributed to 12 lakh beneficiaries in December of the previous year. Despite financial challenges, the state government has continued to provide funds for house construction under this project. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government is committed to fulfilling its promises and ensuring eligible beneficiaries receive their entitled housing support under the Banglar Bari scheme.
